What should a certificate of authenticity say when AI touched the process?

  I’d use one clear disclosure sentence—enough to establish provenance without turning the Certificate of Authenticity into a technical log.

  My preferred wording:

  “Generative AI was used as part of the artist’s creative process; the final composition, artistic direction, selection, refinement, and finished work reflect the artist’s individual creative judgment and authorship.”

  I like this because it doesn't hide the AI, but it also doesn't imply that AI is the author. The certificate documents what matters: AI participated in the process, while the artist made the creative decisions that produced the finished work.

  I would not list individual models, prompts, software versions, or every AI operation on the certificate itself. That information could instead live in an optional Process & Provenance Record associated with the artwork. This also keeps the certificate useful decades later, when today's specific AI tools may be obsolete.
